How to increase motivation about being clean

Although you may think cleanliness is a natural process, you may be surprised to find out that some people actually need motivation to be clean. If you're one of these people, then you could be worse off than you might think. Your appearance says a lot about you, and cleanliness is one of the biggest signs of all. Whether it's your own personal appearance, that of your home or even your workspace, if you give off an unclean or unkempt appearance, people will immediately have a bad impression of you.

It needn't be this way either. For instance, your workplace doesn't need to suffer - look around you and take motivation
from your colleagues and how they keep their areas maintained. Not only will their clean areas stand out from yours, but they should motivate you to not be the messiest in the office. And if you're in an office that needs minimum standards, especially where your work area and cleanliness is concerned, you could be setting yourself up for disciplinary procedure. After all, who wants to show a client round if they have a messy work area? If your bosses feel this way, you could be shown the door pretty quickly.

However, your workplace only accounts for part of the day - your own personal appearance is the one that truly matters. Reputation counts a lot when it comes to how you are perceived in the eyes of others; if you're untidy, or don't look clean, your reputation will be that you're lazy, prone to being a slob, and other unpleasant descriptions. If your appearance is bad enough, you may even have people looking at you and assuming that you're homeless; if this is the case, you know you've crossed the line and that you really need to motivate yourself to be clean. This if especially true if you're single and looking to make new friends, or even find a partner; after all, who wants to be associated with someone who is untidy and dirty?

Having a messy home is another problem. Unless you have no morals whatsoever, you are not very likely to want to invite someone back to your place if it's untidy. Or if you do, and they see what condition your living space is like, it's not very likely that they'll want to make a repeat visit. This will lead to you not having any friends over at your home at all, and can lead to an extremely lonely and miserable existence. Once this happens, you won't even be bothered if your home is clean or not, as it's only you that's ever going to be in it.

This is why it's never been more important to make not only yourself promote a clean and healthy appearance, but that of the space around you. If you look at the most successful people, either in business, sport or entertainment, they all exude an air of cleanliness and tidiness. This is one of the reasons they are so successful - by having a clean and uncluttered approach to what they do, they are able to separate important issues from those less so, and concentrate on what can make them successful. Because they're clean and tidy, they can motivate themselves in other areas. This is the same for you - all you need to do is motivate yourself to be clean, and the success you wish for will surely follow.
